Spring 2015: There's something about Heathcote and the landscape that surrounds. The rocky outcrops and the gullies resting deep in the shade - my mind wanders to mysteries like Picnic at Hanging Rock and the like...it intrigues me. It also helps that I'm right in the centre of a premiere wine region with food to match...I take a lazy Saturday afternoon exploring Heathcote with a friend. Blog post here, full article here. We explored Merindoc Winery and ate at The Willow Room...which I just read has closed after three years, oh no! Never fear, the Heathcote Tourism website is the perfect place to visit to start planning how you're going to squeeze in all those amazing food and wine destinations :)

Winter 2015: In which I step outside of my comfort zone and take a crochet class at a favourite cafe, and meet two lovely creatives as a result...otherwise known as “Crochet Collective” from the winter issue of the Bendigo Magazine. P.S. You can meet them too! I have extended Q&A's with Caitlan from Indie Stitches here, and Jacinta (who teaches the class) from Hattie Loves here. The blog post for the article (you can see what I taught myself to make) is here, and the full version of the article is here. Note that since the article was written, Jacinta has moved on from Brewhouse, is still teaching her classes, just in new locations. Best to follow her on Facebook (see Q&A) to stay up to date! Don't forget to sign up to my newsletter or follow all things Petit Pixel Design using the links below. Also since last issue I have started an online store selling sweet 8x10 custom designed prints...perfect for your little one, you or as a present for a lucky someone!

Autumn 2015: Have you seen those "explore a city in a day" guides that you can get if you happen to be somewhere epic like London for only 24 hours and you want a little taste of the city without it being overly touristy? I love that idea...and often wonder what I would put in a Bendigo version and how it would change depending on who was on the receiving end of my little one day guide. So here's my version...one fine day... blog post and the full article. See blog post for links to places mentioned in the article...including up to date information about market days and the new location for Favourite Flavours.

Summer 2014: I'm often intrigued about how old church buildings that may no longer house congregations have been re-purposed to still help create connections and communities. Here are two I've found that are both thriving in different ways. Small Holdings is a sweet little cafe/restaurant in Malmsbury (90 Mollison St), and The Old Church On The Hill is the home of shared garden and an inspiring community space. Here is the extended conversation I had with Rose about The Old Church On The Hill; the Small Holdings blog post and the full article.

Spring 2014: Facing my fears of making pasta and dumplings from scratch, I explore two cooking classes...one at Kitchen Bliss in Castlemaine, the other at The Epicurean Delicatessen in Bendigo. Both lovely & fun experiences where I cooked with friends and met new people...and got to sit down for dinner afterwards...yum! Full article. Corresponding blog post with links.

Winter 2014: Taking my time on a road trip to Echuca. Stopping at roadside food stalls and humbly vintage stores in Elmore...then a lazy lunch at Morrison's Winery Spending the afternoon exploring some sweet stores (some literally dedicated purely to chocolate and sugar!) before taking a walk along the river to work up an appetite for dinner at Oscar W's. Full article. Corresponding blog post with links.
Sadly, Oscar W's has recently announced their plans to close mid winter, so if you want that steak by the fire overlooking the river, book in sooner rather than later!

Autumn 2014: A favourite held close to the hearts of locals in the green hills of Glenlyon; a renovated milk bar becomes one of Bendigo's favourite brunch spots; and a family owned greengrocer-meets-cafe with a passion for supporting local farmers and foodie events. Ever curious about the reinvention of the general store, here are three places I love. Full article. Corresponding blog post with links & the Raspberry, Chocolate & Almond Tea Cake recipe.

Summer 2013: I followed what used to be a railway line in the 1800's, now a meandering bike trail, out to the little town of Axedale...where a good old fashioned country pub lunch awaited. A thriving little community with plenty to explore. Full article. Corresponding blog post with links.

Autumn 2013: Pieces of Paris
Some of my favourite things about Bendigo and surrounds that remind me of Paris. From shopping to dining, and where to buy snails or a croque-monsieur. Click here for the article, and here for the blog post.
